Abstract

Before the advancements in digital health technologies, health information systems required manual processing steps that resulted in data being kept in physical files. The fast and secure exchange of health information is very important today. Using blockchain technology allows health information to be kept accurate, private, and interoperable between different systems. This chapter analyzes the health data sharing problems on blockchain, concentrating on combined and eye-related issues. Fully equipped orthopedic and ophthalmic centers generate a vast wealth of detailed information for their patients, which includes a complete medical history, a multitude of complex diagnostic imaging studies, and multilevel treatment plans. Blockchain, by definition, is autonomous. Therefore, it does not need any overseeing authority, leading to greater resilience against data breaches and unauthorized access. In addition, decreased vulnerability to data breaches guarantees heightened levels of security. All known and unknown gaps are captured at the system integration, compliance, security, and, most critically, data safety layers when sharing health information on blockchain. Alongside this, orthopedic offices and eye care practices need to guarantee that proper protection of sensitive private patient data is in place.
