Abstract

This chapter reminds us that simulated client (SC) encounters provide learners with opportunities to practice the delivery of relationship-centered care. This requires the practice of veterinary medicine that is contextual, culturally responsive, inclusive, and accepting of clients from diverse social identities and backgrounds. To craft and script realistic simulations requires clinical scenarios to embrace and embody diversity. Developing demographically realistic learning events is essential, yet recent literature confirms a paucity of diversity within SC pools at colleges of veterinary medicine. This lack of representation needs to be both acknowledged and remedied to ensure that future veterinarians receive appropriate training reflective of the populations they will service.
