Shaping the Future of Engineering Education

Artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved from a specialized computer science subfield into a transformative force reshaping global engineering practice. This chapter focuses on engineering education and the future of the engineering workforce. It presents a comprehensive framework to conceptualize AI workforce competencies for engineers for the AI economy. The chapter presents an analysis of engineering faculty perspectives on curriculum readiness for the AI economy across Southeastern Conference institutions based on the proposed framework. The use of AI in engineering has grown exponentially as have the effects of engineered AI systems on individuals, institutions, environment, and society as a whole. The chapter describes the descriptive statistics such as counts and proportions using pandas, and created summary visualizations with Matplotlib.
