Bots and Business Schools: Rethinking Education for the Era of Generative AI
Abstract
The dramatic advances in artificial intelligence (AI) over the past decade are now spawning commercial applications across a wide variety of industries, suggesting that AI is a general-purpose technology. AI is poised to drive significant productivity gains, particularly in white-collar professions—many of which are filled by business school graduates. This chapter explores how generative AI can serve as a feedback tool, support critical thinking, and act as an instructional partner. It highlights gaps in empirical evidence and call for experimentation and research to guide thoughtful AI adoption in business education. Graduates from business schools enter occupations that are among the most exposed to advances in AI, and yet few of these graduates enter the workforce with the right level of AI understanding and capability. Business school simulations powered by generative AI are another promising direction, especially for experiential learning.
