Flash Point Analyzers
Abstract
The first on-stream flash point analyzer was developed by Precision Scientific Development Company in 1958 in cooperation with Shell Development Company. This instrument, the Model 44614 high-range flash point monitor, became very popular. Precision Model 44624 Integrated Flash Point Monitor includes the Model 44607 Flash Pointer, a sample-conditioning system, and a refrigeration unit to cool samples with low flash points. A platinum resistance thermometer, immersed in the liquid in the mixing chamber, measures the sample temperature, which is recorded and correlated with the laboratory flash point. Flash point analyzers are used mainly in the petroleum industry to detect contamination of products, such as gasoline in kerosene, which could produce a hazardous material with an unexpectedly low flash point. The Precision Scientific pipeline flash point analyzer and the Hone-Addison Flashar are equipped with standby facilities for batch operation.
