Abstract

The combustible gas analyzers that monitor the flame itself typically utilize either an optical sensor or a temperature sensor. As the concentration of combustibles in the sample gas changes, it results in a change in the total fuel content of the flame; the temperature, size, shape, and color of the flame may also change. Combustible gas monitoring usually involves monitoring open areas. The frequency of calibration is also somewhat specific to each application. In the case of intermittent use and/or portable combustible gas analyzers, it is generally recommended that at least a calibration check with a known test gas be done on each power-up of the instrument. It is sufficient to say that combustible gas analyzers need to be subjected to routine tests and recalibrations. Infrared sensors will require window cleaning and source replacements. Flame sensors will need pilot gas supplies.
