Abstract

On-line Process Analyzers continuously measures and records the Reid vapor pressure (RVP) of distillate fuels. The Fluid Data analyzer operates on a principle very similar to a common laboratory eductor pump. The analyzer gives the absolute vapor pressure reading, which is the pressure exerted when a liquid is in equilibrium with its own vapor. Major applications of vapor pressure analyzers are for gasoline blenders to meet volatility requirements and to conform with government emission specifications. The response of the Reid Vapor Pressure monitor is not affected by changes in gasoline composition, which can occur frequently in blending operations. Many RVP analyzers are being used for in-line gasoline blending systems to maximize the addition of lower-cost butane without exceeding maximum vapor pressure limits. Vapor pressure analyzers should be installed indoors or in an analyzer shelter to protect them from the weather and to facilitate maintenance.
