Continuous Processing
Abstract
A major part of implementing a system is the importance, not just of easy configuration, but especially of the ease of reconfiguration of that system as new requirements are imposed upon the process. The ability to change configuration must exist both offline and online. The critical need is for simplicity in developing changes. Many industries barely understand the full role of the simple three-mode control loop in improving operations. Physical design restrictions significantly limited the duplication the of control equation. Pneumatic, electromechanical, electric, and electronic designs all required separate chassis, or chassis modules, to achieve different mode combination in a controller. The role of the controller in a process loop is changing as well. The purpose of all process control systems is to manage all disturbances within a system in a way that causes the least impact on production of good product.
