Abstract

Just as our present-day architecture grew out of simple controllers then to control systems and now to open control networks, our techniques for interfacing with the control process itself have been evolving as well. In the evolution of man's relationship to the inanimate, the psychology of conveying information has always been complex. The control of mechanisms and machinery in the industrial revolution as it occurred in the United States, first appeared publicly with the operation of the railroads. The layout and organization of a control panel is very essential in helping understand conditions in the process itself. How instruments are clustered and the way those clusters are placed on the control panel give a better understanding of what is happening within the process.
