Abstract

Abstract The lex Aebutia was a Roman statute concerning legal procedure and, in particular, the formulary procedure (the per formulas procedure), very likely enacted at the end of the 2nd century bce . It gave the formulae , or, at least, the condictio certae creditae pecuniae , the same status as the legis actiones (actions‐at‐law) in the context of the ius civile . The lex Aebutia , therefore, represented an important step towards the definitive abolition of the actions‐at‐law that eventually took place with the enactment of the lex Iulia iudiciorum privatorum in 17 bce .
