Polymer‐Based Systems for Controlled Drug Delivery
Abstract
Drug delivery systems play a vital role in everyday healthcare. The development of specialized drug delivery systems can significantly enhance therapeutic effects. Polymer materials, both natural and synthetic, are excellent candidates for advanced drug delivery systems. These materials are known for their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and the ability to be tailored for specific physical or chemical properties, as well as targeting capabilities. To meet the specific demands of various biomedical applications, polymers can be engineered into a variety of structures, including nanoparticles, nano/microgels, hydrogels, emulsions, and nanofibers. Furthermore, stimuli-responsive polymers have demonstrated great potential for on-demand drug release, allowing for more controlled and efficient treatment options. Consequently, advancements in polymer-based delivery systems not only address the limitations of traditional drug administration methods but also pave the way for next-generation therapeutic interventions.
