Abstract

On February 3, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it would release information about how to file complaints and breach reports regarding the confidentiality of substance use disorder (SUD) confidentiality protections under 42 CFR Part 2. OCR also said it would share a model Part 2 Patient Notice, letting patients know their rights under the confidentiality regulation. The OCR will also update its model HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) with the new required language about substance use disorder treatment records.
