Wafer‐Scale Integration of α‐quartz Thin Films toward Super High Frequency Piezoelectric bioNEMS for Chikungunya Virus Detection (Adv. Funct. Mater. 1/2026)
Abstract
α-quartz/Si Sensors In their Research Article, (10.1002/adfm.202514484), Laura Picas, Adrian Carretero-Genevrier, and co-workers, develop an epitaxial piezoelectric α-quartz/Si BioNEMS sensor engineered through soft-chemistry routes for highly sensitive detection of the Chikungunya virus. The device achieves a mass sensitivity of 205 pg Hz−1 in liquid, enabling virus detection down to 9 ng mL−1. This work represents a step forward in integrating crystalline piezoelectrics with silicon platforms, paving the way for next-generation high-frequency biosensors for point-of-care diagnostics and advanced bioelectronic applications.
