Abstract

Calcification Calcification is fundamental; separating vertebrates from invertebrates, but when misdirected it drives human disease. In the Review Article (DOI: 10.1002/adhm.202501104), Sergio Bertazzo and co-workers consolidate fifty years of cell-based calcification models, unifying fragmented research and advocating common standards including multimodal characterization to strengthen replicability and biological relevance. The cover DDC-SEM calcification image visually exemplifies modality blending (secondary electrons for topography and backscattered electrons for atomic density).
