An Ultrapotent, Ultraeconomical, Antifreeze Polypeptide (Adv. Mater. 4/2026)
Abstract
Antifreeze Polypeptide Freezing damage is a challenge in biomedicine and foods. Extremophiles like polar fish have evolved antifreeze proteins that prevent damage to their tissues. In their Research Article (DOI: 10.1002/adma.202420504), Jessica R. Kramer and co-workers present ultra-economical protein mimetics that inhibit growth of large ice crystals and prevent freezing damage in sensitive enzymes, antibodies, and foods.
