Abstract

ABSTRACT The benzimidazoles are one of the significant benzofused 1,3‐azole heterocyclic scaffolds due to their amazing pharmaceutical importance and different biological activities. Graciously, the C(sp 3 )‐ H bond functionalization of arylmethylamines considerably contributed as an impressive alternative toward synthesis of functionalized benzimidazoles. The different synthetic routes are described based on various catalytic systems for synthesis of benzimidazoles from arylmethylamines/amines as an efficient substrate via C–H/C–N bond functionalization. As well, the substrate scope is discussed in detail and gives scope of different benzimidazole products with their reaction mechanism to understand the fruitful insights to future study.
