World Dementia Council Update
Abstract
The use of the term "brain health" has gained momentum in recent years across sectors ranging from health policy to economics as a way to frame conversations and advance efforts related to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD).However, as the term has become more ubiquitous, some members of the dementia community have raised concerns about its effectiveness as a framework. In particular, questions have emerged about whether the breadth of the concept dilutes the focus on ADRD.To explore the risks and opportunities associated with this framing, the World Dementia Council (WDC), in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association and supported by Alzheimer's Society, convened a virtual dialogue on January 27, 2026, bringing together global leaders from dementia advocacy, policy, research, and public health.Chaired by Robert Egge, chief public policy officer of the Alzheimer's Association and president of the Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM), the discussion examined where brain health framing works, where it may fall short, and whether it is the right framework to advance progress on dementia.
