Outside Front Cover: Combined In‐Solution and On‐Surface Synthesis of a Fully Fused Cross‐Shaped Phthalocyanine Pentamer
Abstract
In the Research Article (e21922), Luis M. Mateo, Leo Gross, Jascha Repp, Diego Peña, and co-workers present a fully-fused cross-shaped phthalocyanine pentamer, synthesized on Au(111) by cyclotetramerization of a dicyano-substituted phthalocyanine (Pc) precursor. This nanostructure consists of a central FePc surrounded by four ZnPcs, forming a well-defined cross-shaped assembly. Bond-resolved atomic force microscopy with a CO-functionalized tip reveals the structure with submolecular resolution, confirming the complete fusion of the five Pc moieties.
