An Investigation of the Interfacial, Self‐Assembly, and Antifungal Properties of Novel Symmetric Cationic Bolaamphiphiles
Abstract
ABSTRACT Cationic bolaamphiphiles or bolaforms have gained significant attention due to their unique self‐assembly behavior and potential applications in biomedical science. In this study, we have synthesized two novel cationic bolaamphiphiles, C 12 ‐(2‐(4‐carbamoylpiperazin‐1‐yl)pyridin‐1‐ium chloride) 2 [C 12 (CPPC) 2 ], and C 10 ‐(2‐(4‐formylpiperazin‐1‐yl)pyridin‐1‐ium chloride) 2 (C 10 (FPPC) 2 ) featuring urea and amide linkers with C‐12 and C‐10 spacers that may modulate their self‐assembly properties. Their interfacial properties and aggregation behavior in aqueous solution were systematically investigated using various techniques, which revealed the formation of micellar, vesicular, and elongated assemblies by the bolaforms. Calorimetric studies further demonstrated thermodynamically favorable and entropy‐driven aggregate formation in water, highlighting their potential for supramolecular and nanostructured material applications. We have also demonstrated potential antifungal activities of the studied bolaforms.
