Let Coliphages Lead the Way to Smarter Water Sanitation
Abstract
A s aridification reshapes the landscape of the US Southwest and population shifts compound water stress, the need for dependable drinking water solutions is reaching critical levels.Advanced water purification (AWP) is the process of transforming wastewater into potable water. While AWP is gaining traction, its adoption is often slowed by regulatory expectations that prioritize sophistication over practicality.Several states-including Arizona, California, Colorado, and Texas-have introduced regulations to protect public health by mandating rigorous monitoring for human viruses.Although the intent-safe water for all-is sound, the methodology frequently relies on difficult-to-measure targets, extensive modeling, and long-term monitoring that can pose serious barriers to scale-especially for smaller communities and utilities.
