A Control Strategy for Bidirectional DC–DC Converters Based on Switching Theory
Abstract
ABSTRACT Bidirectional DC–DC converters are critical components in modern power electronic systems, yet their performance under conventional control strategies is often limited by slow transient response and weak disturbance rejection. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposed a switching control strategy based on multiple Lyapunov functions. A hybrid switching system model is formulated to capture the converter dynamics across different operating modes, and a feasible Lyapunov solution is derived to characterize system stability. Building on this formulation, a mode‐dependent switching law is designed to guarantee asymptotic stability of the closed‐loop system. A MATLAB/Simulink‐based simulation model and a hardware experimental prototype are developed to validate the proposed approach. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate that, compared with conventional PI control, the proposed strategy achieves substantially faster dynamic response and enhanced robustness against disturbances. Specifically, the response time is reduced from 50 to 20 ms while overshoot is completely eliminated from 25% to 0%. These results confirm the effectiveness and practical feasibility of the proposed switching control strategy.
