Recent Advance for PVDF Based Flexible Piezoelectric Sensors
Abstract
ABSTRACT The rapid advancement of flexible electronics, wearable devices, and biomedical engineering has spurred increasing demand for sensor materials that combine excellent piezoelectric properties with superior flexibility. Poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), as a highly promising flexible piezoelectric polymer, has attracted extensive attention due to its unique electromechanical properties, outstanding flexibility, and biocompatibility. This review systematically summarizes recent research progress in modifying PVDF piezoelectric materials and their applications in the sensing field. Firstly, the piezoelectric mechanism of PVDF is elaborated, highlighting that performance optimization primarily revolves around enhancing the content of the piezoelectric active β‐phase and modulating the overall Young’s modulus of the material. Furthermore, various modification strategies are discussed in detail, including the controlled preparation of copolymers with high β‐phase content through copolymerization (e.g., RAFT polymerization) and the effective induction of the β‐phase and demonstration of synergistic effects via chemical modifications. Although modified PVDF materials exhibit extraordinary performance, their large‐scale application still faces challenges such as high cost, process complexity, and long‐term stability. Future research will tend toward developing intelligent systems integrated with sensing, energy harvesting, and storage, alongside green sustainable processes and machine learning approaches, to propel the application of PVDF‐based materials in cutting‐edge fields such as implantable medical devices and soft robotics.
