Abstract

A photoinduced, palladium‐catalyzed intermolecular C(sp 3 )–H carbonylation is developed for the direct synthesis of amides and esters from simple CH‐bearing substrates, carbon monoxide, and amines or alcohols. This protocol operates under remarkably mild conditions and exhibits excellent functional‐group tolerance. Diverse aromatic and aliphatic amines, as well as phenols and alcohols, are competent coupling partners, affording the corresponding amides and esters in good to excellent yields. The scope of CH‐bearing substrates extends to variously substituted toluenes, heteroaromatic methylarenes, amides, ethers, and cycloalkanes.
