Shedding Light on Iron Catalysis
Abstract
Iron‐based photoredox catalysis has become a powerful platform for achieving precise synthetic control while aligning with the goals of green chemistry. These reactions typically proceed under mild conditions and offer broad functional group compatibility along with high selectivity. Owing to iron's natural abundance, low cost, and tunable redox properties, iron photocatalysis is particularly attractive for applications in pharmaceutical synthesis and materials science. This review provides a systematic overview of photoinduced iron‐catalyzed systems reported from 2019 to 2025. By analyzing and comparing the mechanisms and key characteristics of different reaction pathways, it aims to offer both conceptual insights and practical guidance for the development of efficient, sustainable iron‐catalyzed transformations.
