Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines how resource allocation in a cultural heritage site development influences residents' support for cultural heritage tourism development, considering destination identification and community identification as mediators. This study employs a mixed‐methods approach. Based on the resource‐based view, semi‐structured interviews and exploratory data analysis ( n = 200) were conducted to identify the measurement scale of three types of resources (human resources, financial affairs and cultural tourism resources). A conceptual research model was constructed by integrating social exchange theory with a social identity perspective. The results of surveying 370 residents indicated that three types of resources exert a positive and significant influence on residents' destination identification and community identification, in which financial affairs affect destination identification most, and human resources affect community identification most. Both destination identification and community identification influence residents' support for the development of cultural heritage tourism, in which community identification exhibits a higher impact.
