Abstract

ABSTRACT Background Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) resemble epileptic seizures but are caused by psychological factors. Surgical stress can trigger PNES in patients with mental disorders. Case Presentation A 19‐year‐old woman developed PNES after orthognathic surgery. She exhibited epileptic‐like seizures such as loss of consciousness and involuntary limb movements, while vital signs remained stable. Based on direct clinical observation and video review, epileptic seizures were ruled out, and PNES was diagnosed by a psychiatrist. Conclusion This is a rare case of PNES following orthognathic surgery. PNES should be considered in the differential diagnosis of perioperative seizure‐like episodes.
