Abstract

ABSTRACT Co‐grafted linear low‐density polyethylene (MASiPE) was successfully prepared by reactive extrusion, in which maleic anhydride and vinyltrimethoxysilane were grafted onto the linear low‐density polyethylene, which has a high molecular chain flexibility. The anhydride groups in MASiPE can undergo an amidation reaction with the amino groups in polyamide (PA), while the alkoxy groups can condense with hydroxyl groups on the surface of carbon fiber (CF), thereby effectively enhancing the compatibility between CF and the PA matrix. Compared with the PA/CF composites, the impact strength of the prepared PA/CF/MASiPE composite increased by 113.2%, along with slight improvements in mechanical strength and modulus. Meanwhile, MASiPE serves as an effective solid lubricant in PA/CF/MASiPE composites due to its low intermolecular forces and high molecular chain flexibility. Under the dry friction test conditions of P = 30 N, v = 360 r/min, the friction coefficient of the composite is only 0.28, a reduction of 44.9% compared to PA/CF, and the volume wear rate is also as low as 4.91 × 10 −6 mm 3 /N m, and the composite can withstand more severe friction test conditions ( P = 30 N, v = 1440 r/min).
