Control of Crystallization Behavior in PA1012 Liners for Type‐ IV Hydrogen Storage Tanks During Rotational Molding
Abstract
ABSTRACT Although polymers enhance the energy density of hydrogen storage tanks due to their lightweight properties, producing polymer liners with high hydrogen barrier properties remains challenging. An effective method combining self‐nucleation (SN) and non‐isothermal crystallization (NIC) was adopted to control the crystal form of PA1012. By optimizing rotational molding process parameters, the changes in the crystal morphology and crystal structure of polyamide 1012 (PA1012) gaskets and their effects on hydrogen barrier properties and mechanical properties were investigated. Under optimized conditions (245°C, 10°C/min), the helium permeability of the liner was reduced by about 50% compared to 225°C, while the barrier properties, mechanical properties, and barrier properties were improved. This method has brought significant progress in the preparation of high‐performance PA1012 liners. This led to the successful preparation of a type‐IV hydrogen storage tank liner that meets high‐pressure hydrogen storage requirements, offering a valuable reference for optimizing polymer liner materials, molding processes, and hydrogen compatibility.
