Enhancing Delay Time in Pyro Devices: A Comparative Study on the Effect of Alloy‐Fuel in Binary Pyro Delay System
Abstract
ABSTRACT Pyrotechnic delay is a device consisting of fuel, oxidizer, and binder that provides a time interval between two successive events involving initiation and output. This article extensively studies the inverse burning rate (IBR) effect on binary fuel‐based pyrotechnic delays. Subsequently, Zr–Ni alloy‐based binary compositions have been reported. It was observed that Zr–Ni alloy‐based binary composition exhibited superior burning rate, higher density, and lower cal‐val as compared to traditional boron‐based delay composition. Specifically, the Zr–Ni alloy fuel enhanced the delay time by 2.33 times as compared to the B/BaCrO 4 /NC binary delay composition in a fixed column length.
