Laser Powder Bed Fusion Additive Manufacturing of Textured (CoCuFeZr) 17 Sm 2 ‐Magnets on Anisotropic Substrates
Abstract
Laser powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) additive manufacturing of (CoCuFeZr) 17 Sm 2 magnets is performed using anisotropic sintered magnets as a substrate. Reference samples are manufactured on isotropic steel build plates. This work shows the potential of PBF‐LB processing using anisotropic substrates to enhance the texture of additively manufactured (CoCuFeZr) 17 Sm 2 magnets. In the as‐built state as well as after material specific annealing, the crystallographic orientation of the samples built on anisotropic substrate is higher than in the reference samples. After annealing, the degree of orientation cos θ amounts to 0.807 for the samples with isotropic and 0.890 for the anisotropic substrate. The increased degree of orientation results in a 20% increase in remanence J r (and texture grade ‐ ratio of remanence and magnetic saturation polarization J s ‐ J r / J s ) in the magnet built on anisotropic substrate with 0.92 T (0.78) compared with the reference with 0.76 T (0.65). The increased remanence of the sample built on an anisotropic substrate leads to a 50 % increased maximum energy product ( BH ) max of 150.7 kJ m −3 compared with the reference of 103.7 kJ m −3 . The achieved maximum energy product already reaches around 70% of the typical values of comparable anisotropic sintered magnets of around 220 kJ m −3 .
