Microstructural Tailoring via Annealing for Temperature‐Specific Performance in an Additively Manufactured Eutectic High‐Entropy Alloy
Abstract
Aero-engine components operate across a wide temperature range, with different sections requiring distinct combinations of strength and ductility. Here, we demonstrate that an AlCoFeNi2 eutectic high‑entropy alloy fabricated by laser powder bed fusion can be microstructurally tailored through designed annealing to meet these specific demands. Annealing at 700°C produces a nanolamellar structure reinforced by L12 nanoprecipitates, achieving an excellent strength–ductility balance at room temperature. Alternatively, annealing at 900°C leads to an ultrafine equiaxed grain structure, which provides outstanding ductility along with retained strength at 650°C. This work establishes a post‑process heat‑treatment strategy that enables a single alloy to be selectively optimized for different temperature regimes within an engine, offering a versatile and efficient pathway for designing high‑performance additively manufactured components (10.1002/rar2.70244).
