Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenging GdVO 4 :Eu 3+ Nanoparticles as a Prospective Wound Healing Agent
Abstract
ABSTRACT Prolonged inflammation and excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, combined with antibiotic‐resistant microbial infections, are major factors that significantly delay wound healing, especially in diabetic conditions. Nanoparticles (NPs) with ROS‐regulating properties are gaining attention as potential anti‐inflammatory agents. In this study, we assessed the wound healing efficacy of GdVO 4 :Eu 3 ⁺ NPs conducting both in vitro tests with ROS‐sensitive probes in cell‐free media and in vivo experiments on healthy mice and mice with streptozotocin‐induced diabetes. The results demonstrate that GdVO 4 :Eu 3 ⁺ NPs in a gel formulation accelerate wound healing in healthy mice and enhance the repair process in diabetic models. This reparative effect is associated with the NPs' capacity to scavenge excess ROS (•ОН, O 2 •− , H 2 O 2 ) generated during the inflammatory phase. These findings suggest that GdVO 4 :Eu 3 ⁺ NPs hold considerable potential as a therapeutic agent for improving wound healing, especially under diabetic conditions, and highlight the need for further research.
