Photocatalytic Reduction of CO 2 to CO on Defective CeO 2 Surface
Abstract
ABSTRACT The capture and efficient conversion of CO 2 represent a crucial strategy for mitigating environmental pollution and addressing the global energy crisis. Semiconductor photocatalytic technology has gained significant traction in the field of CO 2 conversion, primarily due to its ease of operation, low energy consumption, and absence of secondary pollution. In this study, the biochar composite material loaded with 5% CeO 2 (Ce/C) was synthesized by the hydrothermal method. The Ce/C‐R prepared by hydrogen reduction exhibits a substantial specific surface area, efficient light absorption and responsiveness to light, and a notably elevated oxygen vacancy concentration. The experimental results show that Ce/C‐R has high CO 2 adsorption and photocatalytic conversion performance. The adsorption capacity of CO 2 has been determined to be 153.26 µmol·g −1 , and the rate of photocatalytic conversion to CO is 0.45 µmol·g −1 ·h −1 . This study proposes a novel concept for the adsorption and photocatalytic conversion of CO 2 .
