Abstract

ABSTRACT Herein, an electrochemical sensor based on poly(tartrazine)‐supported Co‐doped MoS 2 ‐modified pencil graphite electrode (TRZ/Co‐MoS 2 /PGE) was developed for real‐time determination of the dopamine (DA) content of banana peel and pulp at two different post‐harvest stages. Electrochemical characterization of this sensor showed that it has a higher electroactive surface area than the bare pencil graphite electrode (PGE), the Co‐doped MoS 2 ‐modified PGE (Co‐MoS 2 /PGE), and the poly(tartrazine) modified PGE (TRZ/PGE). The limit of detection (LOD) of DA at the proposed sensor was 0.74 µM over a linear range of 1.1–12 µM and 15.8–500 µM. Interestingly, the electroanalysis of DA in banana peel and pulp confirmed that the DA content of banana peel was about 50% higher than that of the pulp. Additionally, the analysis of the DA content of the rotten banana shows that there was a significant drop in the DA content of the peel and pulp when they are rotten. The results obtained in this study confirmed that the banana peel contains a substantial amount of DA, making it a promising source of DA for the production of pharmaceutical formulations. TRZ/Co‐MoS 2 /PGE also lost < 10% of its initial current response after 30 CV scans and 72 h of DA electroanalysis at the proposed sensor.
