Novel Imidazole–Chromen‐2‐One Derivatives: Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation as Potential Antidiabetic and Antioxidant Agents
Abstract
ABSTRACT A series of novel imidazole–chromen‐2‐one derivatives (6–11) were designed, synthesized, and evaluated using an analog‐based drug design approach for their potential dual α‐glucosidase/α‐amylase inhibitory and anti‐inflammatory activities. In vitro biochemical assays were conducted to assess enzyme inhibition and antioxidant potential. Among all tested compounds, compound (11) exhibited the most potent α‐glucosidase and α‐amylase inhibitory effects, with IC 50 values comparable to the standard drug Acarbose , indicating significant antidiabetic potential. Additionally, compound (11) showed moderate antioxidant activity when compared to Sitagliptin , which was used as a reference standard for comparison purposes only. These findings support the potential of compound (11) as a promising multi‐target agent for managing diabetes.
