ZnFe 2 O 4 Based Electrode Materials for Electrochemical Sensing Applications: A Review
Abstract
ABSTRACT The detection of pollutants and biomolecules are of great importance for environmental monitoring and medical diagnostic applications. In this context, electrochemical sensors have a great potential for the determination of pollutants and biomolecules. The performance of the electrochemical sensors is largely depends on catalytic, conductive, surface, and structural properties of the electrode modifiers. Recently, ferrite materials especially, zinc ferrite (ZnFe 2 O 4 ) has attracted the researchers due to its cost‐effectiveness, environmental friendliness, and catalytic properties. The excellent catalytic behavior of the ZnFe 2 O 4 toward electrochemical reactions motivated the researchers to explore it for the construction of electrochemical sensors. Therefore, ZnFe 2 O 4 based hybrid materials were extensively used for electrochemical sensing applications. In this review article, we have reviewed the progress in the fabrication of ZnFe 2 O 4 and its hybrid materials based electrochemical sensors for the determination for environmental monitoring and biomolecules. The performance of the ZnFe 2 O 4 and its hybrid materials based on electrochemical sensors have been discussed. The limitation and perspectives for ZnFe 2 O 4 based electrochemical sensors have been discussed.
