A Luminescent Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework for Sensitive Detection of Fe 3+ Ions
Abstract
ABSTRACT Abnormal concentrations of Fe 3 + ions in aquatic environments can pose major health risks. Long‐term exposure to Fe 3+ ions may cause kidney damage and cardiovascular disease. Thus, reliable detection of Fe 3+ ions in water bodies is critical for environmental protection and human health. We used a low‐cost luminous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF‐MT) synthesized via a facile approach to detect Fe 3 + ions in aqueous solutions. The successful preparation of the HOF‐MT was confirmed by various characterization methods. We tested the fluorescence (FL) performance of HOF‐MT and found that Fe 3 + ions exhibited a sensitive FL quenching phenomenon toward HOF‐MT. The FL intensities of HOF‐MT showed a good linear correlation with Fe 3+ concentrations (15–75 mmol/L). We found that the sensing mechanism of HOF‐MT on Fe 3 + ions was a combination of dynamic quenching and internal filtering effect (IFE). Moreover, we successfully applied the HOF‐MT to detect Fe 3+ ions in real water samples, suggesting that this method is suitable for environmental detection.
