Abstract

ABSTRACT Global warming is increasing the frequency of extreme heat events. Natural leather suffers from poor thermal dissipation, which can cause leather products to overheat, resulting in thermal discomfort and thus highly restricting their seasonal applicability during summer. To address this challenge, the PMBTF/PW@SiO 2 /Leather with all‐day radiative cooling performance is developed by compounding Poly(methyl methacrylate—butyl acrylate—trifluoroethyl methacrylate) (PMBTF) and paraffin wax@SiO 2 core‐shell particles (PW@SiO 2 ) coating on natural leather. The atmospheric window emissivity of the PMBTF/PW@SiO 2 /Leather is significantly enhanced (reach 96.5%) due to the synergistic effect of C─F/C─O bonds in PMBTF and Si─O bonds within the SiO 2 shell. The unique core‐shell structure of PW@SiO 2 strengthens the solar scattering property and guarantees high solar reflectance (96.8%). Furthermore, PW@SiO 2 with high heat storage effectively enhances the daytime cooling performance of the natural leather and reduces nighttime over‐cooling. The daytime net radiative cooling power of PMBTF/PW@SiO 2 /Leather is 134.5 W m −2 . The PMBTF/PW@SiO 2 /Leather has a significant radiative cooling performance with a temperature 9.1°C lower than the inner testing ambient and 7.1°C lower than the natural leather. Multiple outdoor practical application experiments further substantiate that PMBTF/PW@SiO 2 /Leather has superior radiation cooling performances. This study provides novel strategies for solving the problem of summer overheating of natural leather, expands its all‐day application scenarios, and enhancing the high‐value utilization of leather.
