Abstract

New peer review platform on the way for Vet Record in 2026AS we look forward to 2026, change is on the horizon for the veterinary profession, with the impending publication of the final decision arising from the Competition and Markets Authority's investigation of the veterinary sector and the government's commitment to reform of the Veterinary Surgeons Act.Similarly, 2026 is also shaping up to be a year of change for Vet Record's research section. The end of 2025 saw the departure of senior clinical research editor, Valentina Busin, who took up a new position as head of virus surveillance at the Moredun Research Institute.Valentina was instrumental in ensuring the high quality of the research articles published in Vet Record over the past three years. We thank her for her efforts and wish her well in her new role.We were pleased to announce that Nicola Gladden, a bovine health management specialist working at the University of Nottingham, has been appointed as our new senior clinical research editor (VR, 13-27 December 2025, vol 197, p 484).Nicola has been a key member of our associate editor team for many years, and we are delighted that she has agreed to take up this more senior position. The change in editorial leadership is not the only change for Vet Record's research section in 2026.This spring, we will be transitioning our peer review infrastructure from ScholarOne to Wiley's Research Exchange platform. This change will greatly simplify the submission process for authors by, among other things, automatically extracting text from the manuscript to populate the metadata needed to manage the submission. In contrast, ScholarOne requires the submitting author to retype or copy/paste information manually.Additionally, the platform will allow authors to automatically determine whether they are eligible for an open-access fee waiver or for open-access coverage under a transformational agreement, with this information clearly displayed at the point of submission.
