Respiratory distress secondary to epiglottitis in two dogs
Abstract
Abstract This report describes two cases of canine epiglottitis. Both were adult male dogs presented with acute respiratory distress characterised by inspiratory dyspnoea and stridor. A diagnosis of epiglottitis was established through endoscopic evaluation of the oropharynx and larynx, which revealed marked swelling of the epiglottis. Cytological and histological sampling of the epiglottis via fine‐needle aspiration or biopsy did not yield any neoplastic cells. Clinical resolution was achieved through medical management, primarily corticosteroid therapy. One dog required oxygen supplementation via a nasotracheal tube.
