Abstract

ABSTRACT Lithium metal is studied in an electron probe microanalyzer equipped with a high‐resolution spectrometer working in the 40–120 eV spectral range. The sample is prepared in a nitrogen atmosphere. Metal and oxide components are observed in the Li K spectrum and the change of their relative intensity as a function of the analyzed thickness demonstrates the slight superficial oxidation of the sample. On the other hand, by applying the electron beam a long time at the same position, reduction of the sample is observed.
