Abstract

Abstract This recipe proposes a method for assessing tsunami hazards by focusing on arrival times and expected flow depths. The goal is to inform decisions about evacuation routes and the design of vertical evacuation infrastructure. The approach organizes data into categories to create easy-to-understand maps for decision-makers, though it sacrifices direct use of quantitative hazard metrics. The method doesn't aim to replace Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Assessments (PTHA), as it focuses on the worst-case scenarios without considering event recurrence. The methodology was originally developed for Central Chile.
