Abstract

Abstract High-sulfur carbonate gas reservoirs, represented by the Puguang gas field, have large reserves and are characterized by high hydrogen sulfide contents, strong reservoir heterogeneity, and abundant edge and bottom water; thus, complex development techniques are needed. This chapter provides a detailed description of the reservoir characteristics of the Puguang gas field in terms of its stratigraphic, tectonic, and depositional characteristics; investigates the water intrusion law and water intrusion prediction methods during the development of the Puguang gas field; and proposes corresponding water control countermeasures and water draining and plugging processes. In accordance with the singlet sulfur dissolution‒precipitation mechanism, the distribution of sulfur deposition in the wellbore and reservoir during the development of the Puguang gas field is studied, and a technique for the management of sulfur deposition in the wellbore and on the surface is developed. Finally, future directions for technological developments for gas field regression control and field recovery enhancement are outlined. The results of this study provide technical support for achieving high and stable production in the Puguang gas field.
