Abstract

Abstract The increasing complexity of industrial environments requires solutions that simultaneously consider technological, operational, and human aspects. In this context, digital simulation plays a strategic role as a tool that connects these elements and contributes to resource optimization. This paper analyzes the use of digital simulation tools with a focus on three fundamental dimensions: simulation technologies, physical work environment and human factors. The research was conducted following the model proposed by [10], encompassing the stages of planning, execution, and analysis of results. The Scopus and Web of Science databases were consulted, yielding an initial sample of 407 articles, later refined to 35 studies with greater thematic adherence. Academic production in this field is particularly strong in European countries, followed by China and the United States. Terms such as “Manufacturing” and “Industry 4.0” appear recurrently, reflecting the alignment of the topic with advances in Industry 4.0. However, the application of digital simulation still lacks approaches that integrate the studied dimensions simultaneously. Since 2018, these dimensions have received increasing attention, especially in research conducted in Europe, Asia, and North America. Furthermore, 52% of the publications occurred between 2024 and 2025, confirming the recent growth and expansion potential of the area. Finally, this study classified the level of coverage of each dimension in the analyzed articles and found that the simultaneous integration of the three remains underexplored, reinforcing the need for interdisciplinary research aimed at developing more effective and sustainable solutions for production systems.
