Abstract

Abstract For several decades, we have been able to control and “observe” matter at the atomic level. However, manipulation at this level also entails risks that can originate from particles measuring just a few nanometres in size. The discussion began with criticism of the nanotechnology itself but ultimately ended with the definition of a new discipline within toxicology: nanotoxicology. For 30 years, scientists around the world have been grappling with questions surrounding the toxicology of nanomaterials.
