Abstract

Abstract Understanding modal parameters is essential for analyzing the vibrational behavior of structures. This study examines the impact of temperature variations and delamination characteristics (damage position and length) on the modal properties of composite sandwich beams. Experimental modal analysis was conducted in a temperature-controlled environment ranging from − 40 °C to 80 °C. Results indicate significant effects of both extreme temperatures and delamination on modal responses. The natural frequency of the first mode decreased from 70.31 Hz at −40 °C to 65.92 Hz at 80 °C, and the second mode’s natural frequency reduced from 460 Hz at −40 °C to 429.2 Hz at 80 °C. Delamination also influenced modal parameters, with damping factor variations from 2.189% at −40 °C to 1.343% at 80 °C. The position and length of delamination further affected the vibrational behavior, with certain configurations showing more pronounced changes. These findings underscore the necessity of considering both environmental conditions and structural damage when evaluating the vibrational behavior of composite materials, providing a foundation for establishing reliable behavioral patterns in various applications.
