Abstract

This study aims to appraise the aquifer system attributes in the Doiwala block of the Dehradun district using comprehensive data derived from electrical resistivity, borehole lithology, and hydrochemical analysis. Groundwater contamination can result from natural and human-induced activities, including chemical weathering of geological formations and the discharge of waste effluents. Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) surveys were conducted alongside a detailed hydrochemical examination of collected water samples to assess groundwater’s geophysical and chemical properties in the study area. Forty-five VES measurements were analyzed to determine subsurface resistivity variations, while thirty-six water samples were tested to assess the region’s hydrochemical composition. The results indicate a strong correlation between geophysical and geochemical data, revealing distinct hydrogeological patterns between contaminated and freshwater zones. This integrated approach enhances the understanding of groundwater quality and significantly contributes to identifying and mapping pollution-affected aquifers in the region.
