Abstract

Silver chloride (AgCl) deposition onto silver (Ag) wire is widely used for electrochemical applications, including sensors, and energy storage devices. In this work, AgCl deposited Ag wires were fabricated via anodizing Ag in various aqueous electrolytes containing chloride salt. For the first time, potentiostatic, galvanostatic, and potentiodynamic approaches were used in this work to investigate AgCl deposition on Ag wire. The effect of parameters like type and concentration of electrolytes, deposition potential or current density and deposition duration, was investigated in this study. The deposited Ag/AgCl was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and chloride response of the electrodes were analysed using electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and potentiometry. This study provides details about the effect of electrolytes and their concentration, and deposition methods for the fabrication of Ag/AgCl electrodes.
