Abstract

Proteins referred to as amyloids are commonly described as pathologic linear fibrils, whose propagation disrupts the functions of organisms—including the human organism. Diseases caused by amyloids are mainly neurodegenerative—such as Alzheimer's disease, Levy body dementia, Parkinson's disease, and prion-based Creutzfeld-Jacob disease (Chiti and Dobson, 2006).
