Examining excessive stock market information search behavior: A moderating effect of age and gender
Abstract
Social media has improved the dissemination of information in the stock market. Several studies have measured substance use disorders associated with Internet and social media use using the Berger Facebook Addiction Scale. This investigation looked into excessive stock market information searches and news exposure among Indian stock investors by applying BFAS to 341 participants, 33.94% of whom were female. Structural equation modeling and moderation analysis revealed that exposure to stock market news was found to be significantly related to excessive information seeking. Age was proven to be a significant moderator of this relationship, while gender was not. An interaction between age and gender was, however, significant. The results are expected to lead to further research in advisory practices about stock information searches in larger populations.
